Sorry, it doesn't change anything that you decide to write ^^E9 (4
bytes) or 0XE9 (1 byte) in the file, providing it has been opened in
binary mode. There is no font encoding there, and no locales either. It
is only a matter of what you initialize the is_printable[] array with.
