Just try a "make install" and see which files are installed.  It is much
than just the pool files. For teTeX, I have:

$ find /t/src/tetex-texmf-runtime/ -type f ! -name '*.fmt' ! -name \*.log ! -name *.efmt ! -name \*.mem ! -name \*.oft ! -name \*.pool ! -name \*.base
