in my setup, examples is a symbolic link for most languages. all
very confusing 

by the way, Volker, PLEASE don't hard wire \def\Status{0} in live.tex!
it cost me hours of headache to understand why deutsch was making
extra gif files, until I finally remembered the same problem from last year
