well, if the directory you nominated is not writeable
by the person running the installer, I am stuck.....

even "run off the CD" makes some local directories for maintenance

I have never addressed this properly, I am afraid, and I do
not have a solution. If anyone can fix the shell scripts
to copy all output to a LOG file, please feel free to add
the changes.
