Yes, I do want to stay informed on that work. I'm very interested in it.

I don't think I can contribute to the checking of the collections. I
don't know many of the packages that are needed for a good
distribution today, as my interest go more in the direction of
unattented batch typesetting. I rarely use LaTeX these days for more
than simple reports, mostly technical specifications. (For management
documents, our costumers want Powerpoint or Word... :-)

But I'll ask some of my staff if they can contribute to the packaging
problem. We have lots of XML expertise inhouse, perhaps we can do
something here. Do you have
 (a) the definition how to define collections (or an example) and
 (b) the definition of package descriptions 
somewhere online? The package descriptions should be on TeX-Live,
aren't they?
