[tex-k] strange behavior of METAFONT

Hello!

Today I began using Metafont (Web2C 7.4.5) 2.7182; kpathsea version
3.4.5. :)

If I start mf and misprint the name of the input file, I recieve a
message: ``Please type another input file name:''. 
Afterwards, it seems that there is no way to use the \relax command in
the same session.

It is quite uncomfortable to restart mf in order to use the \relax
command. Is there any way out?
