\sometxt returns an image. You should be able to use the label macro
without any problem.

With LuaTeX (texexec --lua filename), which won't work out-of-the-box
on TL 2007, you could just as well use the same syntax as in MP (btex
... etex), and it would not produce any intermediate files.
