This made me smile, as it shows how old tetex really is
already. From the Texlive ChangeLog comes this:

That's almost ten years ago!

But are you sure they did run without errors? It is not abnormal
(but often lamentable) for metapost & tex to generate errors
even if it knows how do the 'right thing' in the output.
