<200205020528.g425Sm228446@hera.ics.mq.edu.au> > Hi there, > > I am currently testing the latex2html program and I found out that the created image of equations (i.e., .PNG, can I make this by default as .GIF?) are in bold fonts, eventhough the input latex was in normal font. Will you please help me how to handle this type of scenario. Kindly see attached for your reference. The fonts are not bold, in the images you sent. They may be a little darker than you expect, due to being anti-aliased against a gray background. Try setting \usepackage{color} \pagecolor{white} in the preamble of your document. That may give a result is more pleasing to you. But don't forget, the same images can look different with different monitors, or with different browsers or other software using the same monitor. Colour/shading is a very subjective thing. Ask your colleagues for their opinion on how your pages look. THere is a command-line switch, -img_type that allows you to choose between PNG or GIF images: latex2html -image_type gif .tex For an example of how this can look, see http://www-texdev.ics.mq.edu.au/RHONNIE/mokong1/ . > <> <> <> > > Many thanks. Digesting is temporarily turned-off now. Hopefully that will stop this behaviour, but maybe not. Everyone requesting digests is also getting single postings, so no-one will miss any messages. Also, I've just restricted postings to mail-list members only. I'll keep it this way for a week, then revert to the current open status. If problems come back after a quiet week, then I'll restrict it again for a couple of months. So if you can do it with LaTeX, then you can make images of it. You will want to use LaTeX commands, such as \SetMathAlphabet (see The LaTeX Companion, for this kind of thing) or load packages where the mathematics font in setup for you. For example, there is the Euler set of fonts, or the Concrete-Math font, which are quite attractive, and have thin stems like in your image. What if we want our gif file same as the fonts used in text in HTML (i.e., the color, appearance, etc. of the text and gif in the HTML should be the same). Thanks again. Yes, we apologise profusely for this. It only affected the 20 or so people receiving Digests. About 6 months ago a similar event occurred, and a fix to the Mailman software was devised to guard against it. An updated version of the Mailman software was recently installed to handle the mailing-lists at tug.org . However, that update did not include the fix, and the fix was not applied at the time of the update. It has now been applied, so this kind of event should not happen again -- at least, not in the near future. Also, as soon as I was aware of this problem I disabled sending of Digests. Now that the cause is known and the fix applied, I will allow digests to be sent again. I hope you will not be troubled by this type of problem again, Regards, Ross Moore From johannes.prix@kfunigraz.ac.at Wed May 8 08:02:19 2002 From: johannes.prix@kfunigraz.ac.at (Johannes Prix) Date: Wed, 08 May 2002 09:02:19 +0200 Subject: [l2h] relative image pathnames and search keywords Message-ID: <3CD8CD7B.9419CC40@kfunigraz.ac.at> Hi Friends! First of all a big thank you anybody who is responsible for this great latex2html tool. I consider it great work and thats also why I use is to generate my private home page and the home page of the freedroid open source project I maintain. Two questions I have still that I couldnīt find answer myself from the docu. (1) It seems that latex2html fills out the META keywords="...." in the html document with something sensible but not exactly with what I consider the best keywords. I didnīt find an option or command with which I could set that from within the latex file. I therefore wrote a short (my first) awk file to process the generated html file after each time latex2thml runs. That works, but I would prefer it of course if there was a way around whis. If it is, perhaps that could be included in the docu. (2) Although I use relative pathnames with my includegraphics commands in the latex file I see that the html file then shows up absolute pathnames. This IS a problem to me, because I usually edit and test my files from home and do not have permanent internet connection. Before I upload the newest html file I have to reduce the pathnames to relative ones that are also valid on the host, where the html files are acually made publicly availabe. Can I somehow control this? I didnīt find an option in the docu. If there is one, perhaps could that be added to the manual or perhaps at least refered to within the image generation/control secions? (1) date format I have two questions for language and date format. In default, english.perl (this may be the default language) does not seems to be loaded, and local date format &'language'_today() defined in 'language'.perl does not seems to be used. I think it is enabled by the following change in the definition of &address_data(): ($user, &get_date($format,$order)); to ($user, &do_cmd_today()); However, since english.perl is not loaded, this change make a incorrect date format, such as "14, 2002", in default. Why &'language'_today() is not used ? Why 'default language'.perl (=english.perl) is not loaded ? (2) &do_require_package() I found a small misprint of the book: &do_require_package("$LATEX2HTMLSTYLES/german.perl"); should be &do_require_package("$LATEX2HTMLSTYLES/german"); or the function do_require_package() defined in latex2html.pin should be modified. +========================================================+ Shigeharu TAKENO NIigata Institute of Technology kashiwazaki,Niigata 945-1195 JAPAN shige@iee.niit.ac.jp TEL(&FAX): +81-257-22-8161 +========================================================+ From emilio@icm.csic.es Wed May 15 16:29:37 2002 From: emilio@icm.csic.es (=?ISO-8859-1?Q?Emilio_Garc=EDa-Ladona?=) Date: Wed, 15 May 2002 17:29:37 +0200 Subject: [l2h] multirow support (2) Message-ID: <3CE27EE1.5080008@icm.csic.es> Hi, in february I posted a problem with the latex2html support to multirow package. Ross kindly answered that updated versions will contain explicity such support. I have updated the l2html ( "This is LaTeX2HTML Version 2002-1 (1.68)") from the repository and I still have problems with tables that make use of \multirow command. Here below you could find a brief example and the error messages of l2html. I tried a simpler table with only a multirow command and the appearance of the table was correct ! but the text argument of the \multirow command was still wrong. I would like to know if my current version of the latex2html is the good one for multirow support or alternatively if it exists another way to overcome such problem (I have no background in perl scripting). The extra dot is produced by do_cmd_the_appendix in the main program, last line. It reads (in v1.68): join('', &fAlph($val), '.', $_[1]); Correcting this to join('', &fAlph($val), $_[1]); solves the problem. I didn't check this out with v1.68, most probably it's the same bug there. What would you do differently? If you're not using the tools that come with the Python source distribution to format the documentation, please take a look at those; you can find some documentation for the markup we use in "Documenting Python", included as part of the standard documentation. -Fred -- Fred L. The HTML output does not look the way it should. What do you mean by "the way it should" ? LaTeX provides a simple default layout for \maketitle; so also does LaTeX2HTML. If you want the date, you need to ask for it; e.g. using \date{\today}. If you wish to customise the title, then link CSS styles to the tagging used within the title part of the HTML page. Fred> What would you do differently? A few things have me stumped: 1) \verbatiminput does not use the same size font as \verbatim. It does not indent the same, and the Python tools use `basename`.txt to build a "download as text" file. When you have more than one file which differ only in suffix, this is a problem. Check this out for an example: http://www.object-craft.com.au/projects/albatross/albatross/tug-simple2.html There are two files; simple.html and simple.py. 2) The argument list formatting for methoddesc (and others) does not wrap long argument lists. Check this out: http://www.object-craft.com.au/projects/albatross/albatross/pack-simplesessapp.html The PDF document truncates the argument list. 3) The List of Figures is a bit non-functional in HTML (probably my fault). An excellent point; I'll count this as a bug that need to be fixed: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=558279&group_id=5470&atid=105470 > 2) The argument list formatting for methoddesc (and others) does not > wrap long argument lists. > > Check this out: > http://www.object-craft.com.au/projects/albatross/albatross/pack-simplesessapp.html I don't think I see the problem. Is it the constructor argument list? It wraps for me once I shrink the window (Mozilla 0.9.9). > The PDF document truncates the argument list. This is painful, and I'm not sure how to fix it. The problem is really two-fold: 1. The signature line is an \item in a list environment, and I've no idea how to get that to do any sort of line wrapping. 2. I don't know how to get it to wrap where I want it to. Ideally, a long list of arguments should be wrapped, but line up after the opening parenthesis: myMethod(arg1, arg2, ..., argN) > 3) The List of Figures is a bit non-functional in HTML (probably my > fault). How are you marking figures? We've not been using that with the Python documentation, so I have no idea how that works. If you can supply a short sample document via private email, I'll take a look at what can be done. Floats, by default, result in an image. There are some exceptions, such as {tabular} within {table}. The general override mechanism, to force interpretation of the contents of the float within ...
tags is to use the \begin{makeimage}...\end{makeimage} environment, from html.sty, to enclose that portion which needs to be an image. Everything else is interpreted as normal. To interpret *everything* in the float, use an empty {makeimage}, as follows: \begin{table}[ht] \begin{makeimage} \end{makeimage} \begin{tabularx}{...}{...} ... ... ... \end{tabularx} \caption{....}\label{....} .... .... \end{table} > > >Can you figure out why the result is the way it is and how I can > >change it to procude HTML tables? When I have a \author{My Name\\My Company \and Another Name\\Another Company \and Yet Another Name\\Yet Another Company} in DVI it shows up as My Name Another Name Yet Another Name My Company Another Company Yet Another Company whereas in l2h it produces My Name My Company - Another Name Another Company - Yet Another Name Yet Another Company As this is not the correct behavior, I suppose this might be a bug. I am writing a package that implement citations for standards in Brazil, and I would like to provide latex2html for it. I tried figure out what part of the code does, but unfortunately I don't know perl (but I can learn something). The rules for citations are rather complicated, so I thought LaTeX could do the job easier. My package writes to a file \jobname.lhc, for every \cite, a command like \generalcite{text of the citation} So the first citation writes the first line in that file, and so on, in order. My idea is that the perl-l2h version of my package * creates a counter gencite (and set it to zero) * reads that file \jobname.lhc - for each \generalcite command, l2h increments gencite counter and defines a new subroutine named as do_gencite_(value on counter), and this subroutine contains the html translation of the code given as argument of \generalcite. * set again the gencite counter to zero. * (re)defines do_cmd_cite to - increment the counter - use the command do_gencite_(value of gencite) In order to provide links to the references, each \generalcite can contain a command \citelink{text}{cite key}. A tipical line of the real \jobname.lhc: \generalcite {({\citelink {\MakeUppercase{Faria}, 2000}{6023:2000}})} \generalcite {({\citelink {Souto, 1916}{10520:4.8}, p.~46, grifo nosso})} The idea of \citelink{text}{cite key} is to make an archor with HTML translation of 'text' So \generalcite {({\citelink {\MakeUppercase{Faria}, 2000}{6023:2000}})} would (if gencite=1) create the subroutine do_gencite_1 (or the value of gencite in small roman numbers, if digits are not allowed in perl routine names) and the execution of do_gencite_1 would give the html code (FARIA, 2000) In the text, at the first occurence of \cite, do_gencite_1 should be executed. Somebody can help me? I didn't send it to the list because your reply wasn't on the list either, but now I suspect that mailing to you directly doesn't work, so I try it once again on the list. Greetings, Andi ==== thank you for your quick reply. Unfortunately I still didn't get it to work. I tried it in three different ways (in order of descending flexibility and thus descending degree of preferation): 1. use a command inside the \htmlimage that yields text depending on the current state of a counter so that I could use \htmlimage{\alternatingtext}. This doesn't work because the argument to \htmlimage (seems to me) is not really executed. If it is a command defined with \newcommand{}, it is simply replaced by its definition which in turn isn't executed; if it is not defined with \newcommand{} (but in a .perl extension file), simply the command name an some brackets are stripped and what remains are the parameters. (when used in normal text, the \alternatingtext command produces the expected output) 2. use a command inside the figure environment that "calls" \htmlimage with the respective parameter. Doesn't work because \htmlimage (as seems to me) isn't really a command (the sub do_cmd_htmlimage just prints that it should only be used in figure environments) but is explicitly scanned for in the latex2html main script. So I can't call it from my command. 3. use a command that produces the complete figure environment. I don't know exactly how to do this. I tried to write a sub, say do_cmd_alternatinghtmlimage, which should create a figure. Since I can't use latex in the perl script, I guessed I'd have to call do_env_figure directly, so I captured the parameters of do_env_figure from a standard call and found it was something like "\n\n\\htmlimage<<25>>blabla<<25>>\n\\includegraphics[bla] <<26>>blabla<<26>>\n". But if I just call do_env_figure with this string as parameter, the produced images.tex file contains "\begin{}" instead of "\begin {figure}". So I think maybe I have to call some "higher level" function than do_env_figure, but can you tell me which one? Or am I completely wrong? But can it be so hard to do this (for one having but a vague idea of how latex2html really processes a document :-) )? > Use LaTeX commands to advance the counter > at each figure that needs to be aligned. > (Presumably you do something like this anyway, in LaTeX; > or do you use boolean \if.... \...true \...false macros?) In the LaTeX (print) version I don't need alternating images since it contains only few of the images. If you'd like to see the documents, they're available on www.andreaswitzel.de via the first two links (unfortunately in German...). On some HTML pages there are many fotographs at the bottom of the page (and there are more to come) which would fit into the text if they were placed alternatingly... I'd be really happy if you could help me further!
