At small sizes, adding some general positive kerning
may improve readability.  OTOH, at large sizes most 
fonts need to be typeset a bit tighter, so as not to 
look like "letterspaced".  And "track kerning" is the
quantitative description of this strategy, for a 
particular typeface.

[Unfortunately, doing so is not easy with TeX, and it 
isn't automatically supported by fontinst, either.]
