fontutils 0.7 available

I have released a new version (0.7) of the GNU font utilities. It's
available from:
  ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/fontutils/fontutils-0.7.tar.gz
and all GNU mirrors around the world
  (see http://www.gnu.org/software/software.html#HowToGetSoftware)

This release updates the library license to the Lesser GPL version 2.1
(see http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/lesser.html). (The LGPL applies only
to a few files in the distribution taken from the GNU C library; the
rest of distribution is covered by the regular gpl.) It also makes some
configuration and compilation updates.

To compile these programs, you will need GCC and GNU Make. For the
programs which do online graphics, you will also need an X11 server and
the X11R4 or R5 libraries.

The main purpose of these programs is to form a tool chain to generate
Metafont or PostScript fonts from scanned images. I have numerous
(public domain) scanned images of type specimens if anyone would
actually like to try this (it's nontrivial and the fontutils don't
currently support everything needed; for example, there is no provision
for hints).

Send bugs or suggestions to bug-gnu-utils@gnu.org. However, the
fontutils are currently looking for a maintainer; I haven't been able to
act on the many bug reports and good suggestions that have already been
made. If you have time and interest, please email me.

Thanks,
karl@gnu.org
