[Tugindia] including external tables - numbering problem

Hi all,

I have a main.tex file into which i include supplementary 'a.tex'  and 'b.tex' files in the preamble of main.tex; i use xr package
a.tex and b.tex contain one table each.
now when i compile main tex, the references to external document labels in a.tex and b.tex are shown as Table. 1 only; infact table numbering in each of the a.tex and b.tex files are have deafult counter of 1.

I had expected that it should show Table 1 and Table 2 in main.dvi when references for tables in a.tex and b.tex.

am i missing something ?
