Here is a glad news that would be of interest to the TeXies in India.

Professor Kapil Hari Paranjape of the The Institute of Mathematical Sciences
(IMSc) was one out of eleven scientists who were awarded the presitigious
Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar prize this year in August 2005. The awards would be
given away by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on September 28, 2005.

Professor Paranjape was awarded for his work in the mathematical sciences.
He holds a PhD from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, and his
field of interest is Algebraic Geometry. IIMSc is a national institute for
fundamental research in frontier disciplines of the mathematical and
physical sciences such as Theoretical Computer Science, Mathematics, and
Theoretical Physics. Professor Paranjape is the author of several technical
publications in reputed international journals, as well as many
non-technical writings on science, computers and society. He is an active
member of the Tugindia list, an expert TeX user and a strong proponent of
the free software movement.

Congratulations to Professor Paranjape on receiving this prestigious award.
