Am not familiar with TeXnic Center, but have you tried Kile (comes with KDE) on linux?  Also downloadable from http://kile.sourceforge.net.   Another lightweight editor is TkLaTeXEditor (TLE) which is on http://freshmeat.net/projects/tle  

While both these IDEs have neat features for navigating large documents, Kile has more advanced features for managing 'projects' with multiple tex source files, and an embedded konsole.
