Probably, memoir.cls might be the best choice for you, where documents
can use 9pt, 10pt, 11pt, 12pt, 14pt or 17pt as the base font size.

Yes and No, they look same, but of two different foundries. You might

The default font in TeX is Computer Modern Roman which is designed by
