Regarding INDIC languages, I think ITRANS is a good alernative.
It is not very difficult to install by following the instructions.
I successfully installed it in my windows machine(MIKTEX ) at the
office and in the
linux box at home. One
preprocessor handles all the languages, Tamil, English, Devnagari
etc.( I have used only the devnag part of it.) The documentation says
that
unicode fonts are supported in the latest version.( I have a very, very
hazy idea of what
unicode fonts are. Can somebody enlighten me?) Itrans is created by
Avinash Chopde and it is available from
www.aczone.com
Let me see if I can put together a HOW TO for installing ITRANS although
the documentation looks simple
enough to follow.
