I may be naive to raise this question: did you run bibtex after
reverting to agsm.bst? It is this step that generates the labels of
one's bibliographic items. The correct procedure to compile your
source file after a change in stuff related to bibtex is this:
1. latex/pdflatex source.tex (to generate the recent source.aux)
2. bibtex source (to generate source.bbl; this contains the way
citations are printed)
3. latex/pdflatex source.tex
4. latex/pdflatex source.tex (the fourth step is required only if the
labels in the .bbl file have changed. Such a change will be
recognised only at the end of step 3.
