[tug-support] output files

G'day,

through all the faq's and pages I've read all say the utteruseless 
phrase that output will take place in the current directory or in the 
place where the enviorenment variable says then /tmp

Now could somebody tell me is it possible for:

pdflatex /tmp/class.tex to out put to /tmp/class.pdf regardless of who 
(and I include root) or where pdflatex is called please.

My hair stylest would appreciate it as at this rate she has much less to 
work with.
