[texhax] horizontal footnotes

I have a LaTeX ducument with many short footnotes on a page.
I wanted to format the footnotes as

1 footnote1   2 footnote2   3 footnote3 ...

rather than

1 footnote1
2 footnote2
3 footnote3

I managed using \footnotemark, \quad and \footnotetext.

Is there an easier way?
