[texhax] invalid character in tengtex

I'm getting the following error:

In ! tengtex.sty  (TengTeX for LaTeX) 22 September 1994 Version 1.00
Using a hex editor I see:

I don't see any invalid characters. Did I miss it? Any idea how to fix this?
