A far simpler solution than pict-2e (since it produces standard dvi
output) is to install xy-pic.  It uses its own font (which is installed
along with the package) to make lines and arrows at any slope with a
circular resolution of better than 1 degree (360/512 to be exact).  For
producing commutative diagrams, I would further recommend my diagxy, which
is a front end to xy-pic.  The latter is, of course, only my personal 
opinion.
