% /usr/local/texlive/2011/bin/i386-netbsd/xindy.run --version
module 'syscalls' requires package OS.

So I tried with:

% /usr/local/texlive/2011/bin/i386-netbsd/xindy.run -M /usr/local/texlive/2011/bin/i386-netbsd/xindy.mem --version

xindy release: 2.4
texindy script version: 1.11
xindy script version: 1.16
xindy kernel version: 3.0
CLISP version 2.49 (2010-07-07) (built on moray.salmi.ch [172.29.11.134])
    architecture: I386

Then it might be it. Thanks for your help!
