I assume that tlmgr does the same as the installer.  Both are written
in Perl.  Whether we are under Windows or a reasonable OS can be
determined by Perl's $^O variable.

If we are on Unix (or Mac OS/X) we simply execute the file
"tlpkg/installer/config.guess"

If the architecture isn't determined properly, please run
tlpkg/installer/config.guess yourself and send the output to the
tex-live mailing list.
