You can in fact use *one* installation of TL on a unix server and
mount it to Windows and Mac and other Unixes.
Then on Unix/Mac just add the resp. dir to the PATH.
On Windows you can use w32client thing
http://www.tug.org/texlive/w32client
to set up start menus etc.
That saves a lot of disk space.
