[tex-live] texlive 2008 update --all loses update.cfg, help?

    Is there any issue with TEXMFHOME=~/Library/texmf

That should be fine.

Evidently it could not find texmf.cnf.
All else follows.

Glad reinstalling was an option.
I have no clue what really happened :(.
