[tex-live] install-tl with network location, but without sneaky updates?

Perhaps this is not spelled out very clearly in the help, but live
(uncompressed) installation source has to be accessible through the
file system.

Or you can mirror the current tlnet/2008 and use that over the network
(unless you absolutely need the initial release). Then you will have a
private frozen archive to use and you can subset it as necessary as
well.
