ls-R files are created in directories listed by a command
kpsewhich -expand-braces $TEXMFDBS
(
 in cmd prompt.
 Unix equivalents are
 kpsewhich -expand-braces \$TEXMFDBS
 or
 kpsewhich -expand-braces '$TEXMFDBS'
)
