[tex-live] tlmgr broken?

I tried to do my daily update, it ended with the error message

"kpsewhich" is not exported by the TeXLive::TLUtils module
Can't continue after import errors
at /usr/local/texlive/2008/bin/x86_64-linux/tlmgr line 68

I get the same message after a 

tlmgr --help

I followed Karl's advice and nothing changed. What can I do now?
