I'd be looking closely at your X11R7.4.  Are other applications having
problems with Cygwin X11R7.4?

Ubuntu 8.10 uses X11R7.4.  I just did a TL build from svn sources, firstly
to see if it would work, but also to look into the xdvi bug reported in
another thread (the "g" command doesn't accept '0' as a valid digit, so
"11 g" works, but "10 g" goes to page 1.).

Configure for xdvik gave:

checking for XpQueryVersion in -lXp... no

So far, my locally compiled Xdvi appears to be bug compatible with the
version in the TL2008 build.
