[tex-live] Which release ?

Ah, sorry, I should have been clearer : this is
TeX Live (direct from TUG) installed on Windows/XP.
I am reasonably certain that the earliest extant
installation in my home is the 2003 release, but
I was hoping to run a test to check the release
date of each so as to be in a better position
to understand their difference(s) in behaviour.

I would seem (if I understand your message correctly)
that there isn't (say) a file "AAAREADME.1st"
that comes with each release and which is updated
to indicate the release, but rather that the
convention(s) for file naming change from year
to year, so one year might have a "Live.html" whilst
another year might have a "TeXLive-EN.html". Have
I understood you correctly ?

An alternative approach would be to use
the version number reported by (Pdf)TeX.
TeX itself changes rarely, but over the
period of interest I imagine that PdfTeX
was changing all the time. Is there, do
you know, a record of which version of PdfTeX
was included in each version of TeX Live since
the former's inception ?
