Actually libXau is loaded by libX11.  The latter is loaded by
freetype.  ATM I have no idea how to get rid of this dependency.  My
simple approach was too naive:  I removed libXau from my system and
instructed Gentoo to calculate the reverse dependencies and re-build
all the necessary files.  It took more than two hours to re-compile
all the libs, ImageMagick, Gimp...  Well, all what happened is that
Gentoo installed libXau again. :(

What do you mean with "system configuration"?  Is there a particular
file you have in mind?  I suppose that a configure option set while
installing libX11 does the trick.

BTW, I'm away from internet from Dec 23 to Dec 26.
