I still cannot understand WHY it takes such a long time on someone's
computer. I installed TL2007 from an image on HD, but TL2005 from DVD,
on my 3 years old notebook ASUS, 1.6 GHz, 512 MB RAM with Fedora Core
2, and x86_64 dual core, 3.4 GHz, 4 GB RAM woth CentOS 4.3. Copying
files from DVD to HD took about half an hour on both computers (the
DVD-RW drive is LG on both), the post installation step on the
notebook took about 10 minutes but less that 5 seconds on x86_64,
everything was probably in cache. I monitored memory consumptions on
x86_64. I do not remember exact figures but it started somewhere
slightly above 200 MB and grew to something above 1 GB at the end of
installation.
