[tex-live] dynamic linking on linux-i386

Hi all,

I'm using the 20070212 texlive disk.
I noticed that the programs in i386-linux are dynamically linked.
This can cause some troubles on certain systems.

For instance lcdf-typetools refused to work on my computer because I
have a newer version of libstdc++ (gcc 4.1.1). Recompiling it from
scratch is a problem too, because it needs the kpathsea library, which
in not present in the texlive distribution.

Maybe the installation disk should include a set of statically linked
binaries as well, to avoid such compatibility problems. Is that a viable
option?

Best.
