/opt/gnu/bin/tar: texmf/web2c/pdfxtex.pool: Could not create file:
    Permission denied

Is it some kind of permission problem? In my daily test installation
(from the live tree, resulting in
ftp://tug.org/texlive/Contents/testinstalled/), the files in texmf/web2c
are installed as mode 644, so they can get overwritten without
complaint. Are your files mode 644? Doesn't make sense to me, though.

Do you have any other flavors of Unix on which you can? The Windows
installation process is completely different (and in flux), so it
doesn't really help narrow down bugs in the Unix install to try it
there.

Try selecting the "basic" scheme (to minimize the install) and send me
the entire session transcript, ok?

Hmm. If this whole process copies the same files several times, that
seems pretty bad. I thought there was code that tried to prevent it.
Maybe that is the problem.

Thanks,
karl
