I think, given the special nature of \toks registers
that you would have to say

\tokdeffed_262={\the\tokdeffed_260}

so that what was placed in \tokdeffed_262 was the actual string
contents of the other \toks register.  That is certainly what I do
to concatenate the contents of \toks registers.
