Hi Apostolos,

    Exactly! Production people put the same label on every CD that
    comes with a book. 

I figured as much.  However, that does not alter the fact that such a
copyright statement is illegal and cannot be allowed to stand.  We need
some sort of remedy, a statement that TL is free software and not
copyrighted by Springer, that anyone getting the CD has the usual
permissions, etc.  The exact wording will obviously take some time to
construct.

Such a statement could presumably easily be put on the web pages for the
book (I mean the ones that are under yours and/or Springer's control).

As well, I don't know if it's practical to put a sticker over the
existing CD labels.  If so, that would be ideal.  If not, then a sticker
on any unsold books is the next best thing I can think of.
