Sure. But in texdoc there is no clear notion of "fail".

I was thinking about that for a moment. The point is, I'm not sure
exactly what I would need. For the moment, I feel more comfortable
reimplementing this. (I'm sure I got a few details wrong, but it's
working since some time now, so...)
