[tex-k] dvips

Hi -

I got this emial from dvips --help under: 
teTeX/bin/sparc-sun-solaris2.8

the dvips command in the version of Tex/Latex i got here does not
create ps-output files which can be sent to a printer or displayed.
the dvips version of the previous TeX implementation i had would make
postscript files.

is this a bug or does one need to add anything to the dvips command?
any help is apprerciated.
