Dear Philippe,

i am not sure if it is possible to determine the z-level easily, when 
you have

\surfaceparamettree

x=f(u,v)
y=g(u,v)

... it is quite easy when you have a function defined

z=f(x,y)

Maybe Jean-Paul Vignault could post a statement if he sees a possibility 
to manage such astuff.
