[pstricks] Coloring sidebar box.

In plain TeX I have created an output routine that prints a page
with a sidebar. I modified the double column routine from the
TeXBook to give two unequal width columns. Now I want to give
the sidebar a tinted background.
 All of the sidebar text for the current page is enclosed in this
macro:

\def\sidebar#1{\hsize=\sidesize\vglue 2in#1\vfil\eject\hsize=\colsize}

I use this macro to insert the text while allowing the normal TeX
mechanisms to handle justification and linebreaking.

Now I want to put a tinted rectangle around this block of text.
Unfortunately the length of the sidebar will vary so the height
of the rectangle will vary.

What if any of the PSTricks tools will allow me to create
the tinted rectangle as a background for the text? I use plain
Tex :-)

All replies appreciated.
