[pdftex] char protrusion / version problem

Oh darn, my thought was that the pdfTeX version number should tend
towards 1, but not actually reach one / perfection until Thanh's demise
(many, many, many years from now).

Great motto possible then, ``When it's one it's done''

We could get to version .9 when it's feature complete, and then just add
another decimal place for each revision.... (can you say five 9s of
reliability?)

Sorry, don't mean to be morbid or anything.
