[metapost] MetaPost - terminally ill or just playing dead? Also New Version

It's no fatal disease but the therapy must go down to the bones.
The greatest limitation I find is in memory management.
Too many times I get
! MetaPost capacity exceeded, sorry [main memory size=2199001].

I would migrate to http://asymptote.sourceforge.net/ if I could
automaticaly convert all the MetaPost code I've written.
