CMAP and font cache are two completely different things. The latter  
is a bug in pdfTeX. Updating your TeX Live 2008 or MacTeX 2008  
distribution will cure it.

To repeat my question, trying to help you to understand your problem:  
are you trying to copy a picture or are you trying to copy a maths  
particle in a kind of text representation?
