In Leopard, the @s right after the file permissions indicate extended  
attributes. If one does `ls -F *` you will indeed see @s for symbolic  
links, but it will be directly after the name of the file. Either way:

> ls -l will show the target for the links. Check if those are
> executable. If so, try using the engine directly rather than the link
> to it.

So, indeed, if it is a symbolic link, this advice seems reasonable.
