I know next to nothing about the use of XeTeX but I am rather  
surprised by what you report. So, you should probably wait a bit for  
the knowledgeable people on this—very active—list to recover from the  
New Year's revelries. Also, I think that there is a list on XeTeX and  
you might want to post there too.
