Folks,
There is a small package on the MacTeX site which installs 64-bit binaries in MacTeX-2009:
www.tug.org/mactex
Will Robertson discovered that luaTeX in this package doesn't work, reporting a bad format file. This turned out to be a bug in luaTeX, which was writing slightly different format files in 32-bit and 64-bit modes. As soon as this bug was reported to Taco Hoekwater, he supplied a fix.
The version of 64-Bit-2009.pkg now on the site now has a repaired luaTeX binary which reads and writes exactly the same format files as the 32-bit version of the program.
