[OS X TeX] Left Justified Symbol

This is a LaTeX question; not a TexShop question. I hope that's Ok. I
can't find an answer anywhere I look.
I'd like to put a \blacktriangleright symbol, left justified, on the
SAME LINE as an equation which contains a definition as a way for the
reader to spot definitions quickly while skimming through the
document. Can anyone help?
