[OS X TeX] pdfcrop and white equations?

In working with the (extremely responsive) author of LaTeXiT on Mac OS X 
-- pierre.chatelier at club-internet.fr -- it seems as if there may be a 
problem with pdfcrop and white equations.

The problem was identified in the latest versions of LaTeXiT that give 
an error when attempting to typset equations with a white color.  (This 
works fine in LaTeXiT 1.15.  The difference is that Pierre switched to 
pdfcrop in beta versions of LaTeXiT 1.16 like the one in MacTeXtras.)
In some cases a corrupt pdf is generated.

Being no expert, I was hoping you (or someone on the Mac OS X TeX list) 
might be able to shed some light on the problem.
