Right. 'apple' is the only glyph that was omitted when updating 8r.
The rationale was that as a logo it doesn't have any business in a
text encoding (and 8r was saturated anyway).
Solving this is tricky because you'd need to modify 8r again. But that
will affect the whole chain of tools from fontinst to dvips and
I'm CC'ing the list. Maybe Lars has a better idea...
