[texhax] dynamic \hsize in plain TeX

Hi all:

In plain TeX I wish to change the \hsize setting
within the same document. E.g. something like

              \advance\hsize by .25in

before the actual page break doesn't seem to have
any effect.

Any suggestions to reset \hsize?
